It’s not been long since it was evidenced that the poorest areas of London are disproportionately affected by a lack of public funding. Check out our blog on this here.
Now, those same neighbourhoods are more than twice as likely as the average neighbourhood to be at high risk of job losses associated with the pandemic. Those directly affected by sudden unemployment are more likely to experience poor mental health amongst other things, and our economy overall becomes inefficient as it over-relies on big business. With the UK’s third round of lockdown in full swing, it is likely we will be seeing these same patterns of unemployment arising, with the same poorer areas being doubly affected.
What can we do?
Band together and reach out to where it’s needed. Community representatives are already doing great work, but they need hands on support and they need funding.
